OUR SERVICES

Rebecca C. Dean Consulting, LLC is a Port Wentworth-based consultant that provides customized solutions to support your abstinence or moderation drinking goals.

Consulting services

Helping my clients achieve their treatment goals is a cornerstone of my services. Trust me to support you with advice tailored to you. I believe in a more balanced and evidence-informed approach to treatment. Harm reduction approaches may be most effective for many people, while complete abstinence may be the best solution for others.

Treatment solutions

Harm reduction is an approach that emphasizes engaging directly with people who use drugs to prevent overdose and infectious disease transmission, improve the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of those served, and offer low-threshold options for accessing substance use disorder treatment and other health care services. Harm-reduction may prevent drunk driving. Harm-reduction prolongs lives and looks out for groups of people who do not fit into the usual abstinence-based addiction treatment mold.

Non-Judgmental support

My harm reduction program uses practical strategies to reduce the negative consequences associated with drug use and alcohol use and improve an individual’s overall health and wellness. No inpatient, No IOP, No Aftercare, no 12-Step meetings, No Sponsor and no derogatory labels!

SAP DOT

DOT SAP EVALUATIONS

The Department of Transportation established Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP) to evaluate employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation.

Employees who have violated the regulation are required to meet with a SAP and receive recommendations on returning to duty. The Department of Transportation regulations give an employee who works in a DOT covered safety-sensitive position and fails a drug and/or alcohol test the opportunity to return to that safety-sensitive position once compliance to a SAP’s recommendations has been documented. Log into your DOT Clearinghouse and choose me as your SAP. Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse - Home (dot.gov)

If you have received notification of violation and are in need of a SAP evaluation, please contact me by calling me at (912) 677-7522. You will be scheduled within the week to meet with me for your evaluation.

DOT REGULATIONS

The Federal DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations (49 CFR Part 40) covers:

1. How drug and alcohol testing is conducted

2. Who is authorized to participate in the drug and alcohol testing program

3. What employee's must do before they return-to-duty following a drug and/or alcohol violation

As an employee, when you have violated DOT drug and alcohol regulations, you cannot again perform any DOT safety-sensitive duties for any employer until, and unless, you complete the SAP evaluation.

THE SAP PROCESS

Initial Evaluation:

This is where you meet with a DOT Qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and they will conduct a thorough assessment. The assessment will include information on your drug and alcohol use, family history, physical health issues, mental health, and positive supporters. Depending on the nature of the positive drug and alcohol test, you may be asked to give the SAP permission to contact your medical providers, family members, or others in order to get a complete understanding of your history and potential alcohol misuse or drug use.

Treatment/Education Recommendation:

Once you have completed the Initial SAP Evaluation, the SAP will make a recommendation for either formal alcohol/substance use treatment (or perhaps mental health treatment) or educational courses. The recommendations are clinically decided based on your needs. Formal treatment may include inpatient addiction treatment or outpatient programs.

Follow-up Evaluation:

You and the SAP will meet a second time and they will determine if you have completed and complied with their recommendation. If you have been compliant, the SAP notifies a specific person at your company (or the company who ordered the test) stating that your are now eligible to take a Return-to-Duty test. Until you have a verified negative test result, you are not allowed to perform any safety-sensitive duties.

Periodic Follow-up Testing Plan

Lastly, the SAP submits a Periodic Follow-up Testing Plan to a specific person at your company (or the company who ordered the test). Periodic Follow-up Tests are observed DOT Drug and Alcohol tests that employees who have previously violated the DOT's Drug and Alcohol testing regulations are now subject to. There will be a minimum of 6 tests in the first 12 months, for a maximum of 5 years.
